Green Appleton in the Balsam Battle

The war on balsam in Besselsleigh Woods continues! Brave spirits from the Earth Trust, Green Appleton and the Wood Group endured the rain on Thursday and pulled balsam for several hours.
Tonight (Wed 11th June) a Green Appleton group more or less cleared the large area by the Osse Brook, in much lovelier conditions. This group was formed to allow those with daytime commitments to have a go, and eight of us duly set to, and piled up pulled plants around tree trunks, following Earth Trust guidance.
It's very satisfying work, as the plants come up quite easily by the roots, and the stems are thick and make a lovely crunching noise when crushed.
There will be another group gathering next Wednesday at 7pm, so come along and help out! There is a lot of balsam in other places in the woods, and the more is pulled the better.
Earth Trust are also continuing to have their groups on Thursdays, so another opportunity to take part.
